The bigger they are...

I just love when powerful people who feel they are above the law find out they are not.

In Alabama, HealthSouth founder and one-time CEO (until he was charged, but acquitted for a $2.7 billion accounting fraud scandal in 2005) Richard Scrushy was sentenced to nearly seven years in jail for giving $500,000 in political contributions benefitting Democratic Governor Don Siegelman for a position on the state's hospital board where he could steer business his company's way. The governor got seven years and four months and the added charge of obstruction of justice.

In Missouri $50,000 gets you spot on the Highways and Transportation Committee, but with the contribution limits completely out the window, perhaps half a mill will become standard fare for political appointments.

Another fundraising scandal, who'da thought

I know there would be a different kind of fundraising scandal with publicly financed campaign. But if there was no fundraising needed there wouldn't even be the appearance of paid-for appointments.
