Jeff Harris announces resignation from Minority Leader position
Submitted by Editor MOTO on Mon, 07/02/2007 - 15:22.
In a letter today, Democratic Minority Caucus Chair Ed Wildberger says Democrats are set to vote for a new Leader July 21.
Paul LeVota from Jackson County seems to have the early lead, which means that Democrats will be looking for a new Assistant Leader.

JC Kuessner is looking ripe for that position as Democrats try to regain a footing in outstate Missouri.
I wish Jeff Roorda would get into the mix. And of course Mike Talboy is always a favorite here at MoPo, but I am not sure he should be leadership after only one session. Oh hell, he can do as well as any of those jokers.

Rebecca McClanahan
Look for the Democratic Caucus to invest in one of their talented freshmen. Look no further than Rebecca McClanahan. She's from outstate Missouri and has proven herself to be very sharp on the issues and in debate.
Jeff Harris was elected Whip after one year, so don't be surprised when they give the Assistant Leader role to McClanahan after one year.
Not quite yet.......
Good pick, but a freshman will likely not get the nod. Mike Talboy and Rebecca McClanahan are both excellent choices and have stood out in their class despite very different approaches and regions they represent. The problem for Rep. McClanahan is her district being so close. She will be a target coming up in 2008. I would love to see her concentrate on winning solidly so we can concentrate on more candidates like her in outstate Missouri. That is why Kuessner will likely be the choice. He is well respected, outspoken and there is no one who will touch him. Plus, he is a different kind of Democrat, from an area very similar to those the Republicans have left in the lurch. While I like the thought of having a flame thrower like Talboy in that role, neither he Roorda or McClanahan will likely get it. Look out for 2010 though. All three will be major players.
