Representitive Steven Tilley is flexing his political muscles. Looks like he's picked a fight with Senator Kevin Engler. And this time it's not about who get's which matching shirt and tie in a box from Macy's.
With the exit of Speaker Rod Jetton, Tilley is now the crown prince of a slim Republican Majority in the House. That margin is tba - but insiders are saying the Majority will have a four seat lead if the two questionable Repub incumbents can't hold their own. Lobbyists in Jefferson City are seeing the writing on the wall and getting more involved in the House Democratic Caucus, heeding Rep. Mike Talboy's message that's it's easier to pay the piper before Election Day.
But Tilley's rise to royalty is at the expense of Senator Kevin Engler, also a Republican. Engler is seeking a leadership grab in the Senate, but Tilley - Engler's cohort not long ago - is working to see that doesn't happen, citing Engler actually needs to win his State Senate campaign - where he's running as an 'independent' - before making a move in Jefferson City. Republican members of the Senate are agreeing, noting Engler and Tilly are both outstate - insomuch they represent the same region of the state.
This is a developing story...but I'd say Tilley's got a leg up. Can Enger's arrogance take a back seat? Will he screw the pooch, or just be stuck fucking his dog?
